The new 7Artisans wireless microphone system comes with two small square transmitters and one receiver. The units turn on and auto pair when you remove them from the storage case, so there is no setup required. The transmitter units also have built in microphones, meaning you can simply clip them to your subjects and start recording. The transmitter and receiver units weigh less than an ounce (27 g) so they won’t be uncomfortable for your subjects or add weight to your camera. In addition, the system uses the 2.4 GHz wireless band and has a transmission range up to 328 feet (100 meters).

7Artisans says that the built-in microphones on the transmitter units are high-sensitivity miniature capacitor microphones with a 360-degree omnidirectional pickup. Each transmitter unit also has a 3.5 mm socket to add an external lavalier microphone as an alternative. When recording with both microphones, you have the option for single or dual-channel recording. In addition, you can use safe soundtrack mode to record a second channel at -6 dB to reduce the risk of clipping with unexpected loud sounds.

7Artisans says that the system features a built-in DSP intelligent noise reduction chip and ENC environment noise reduction technology. The company claims that this will suppress more than 99 percent of environmental noise. The system also uses 48 KHz 24 bit audio for CD-level sound quality. In addition, 7Artisans says that the microphone system has a dodge function which reduces background music when someone is talking during a livestream. It’s not clear whether this is another aspect of the noise reduction system or some form of audio ducking.

Battery life

All three units fit into a storage case which doubles as a charging unit. The 7Artisans quotes the battery life of the transmitter units as six to eight hours and the receiver as eight to 10 hours. In addition, the charging storage case can recharge both the transmitters and receiver around two to three times. The company says that this gives a total run time of around 20 hours for the system. However, it does take about one and a half hours to recharge the transmitters and receiver in the case.

In appearance and design the new dual-channel wireless microphone from 7Artisans is intended to compete with systems such Rode’s Wireless Go II or the DJI Mic. It’s important to note that both of those system cost around three times the price of the 7Artsisans offering though. The important test will be the quality of the audio that the microphones offer and how well the wireless transmission performs in the real world. Low quality audio will always make your video seem poorer quality, no matter how good the image is. At such a bargain price however, the 7 Artisans system is worth checking out if you are looking for a new wireless microphone.
